About Mike

I’m Mike Nash, the CEO of the Customer Experience Initiative, LLC.

I am an impact junky who has spent my career at the intersection of technology, business strategy and customer experience, most recently as the Chief Customer Experience Officer at HP. I joined HP in 2013 as VP of product management for consumer PCs where I was part of the team that drove the turnaround of HP’s PC business. In 2015 I took a larger role as Senior VP of the newly formed Customer Experience and Portfolio Strategy team, where I drove CX, innovation and business development for all aspects of Personal Systems. In 2016, I took on the responsibility as the CTO for PCs. For the last 3 years, I have been the Chief Customer Experience Officer for the entire company, where I drove our CX measurement and improvement process; established the journey mapping process and led the learning and culture to help put the customer at the center of every decision and strategy.

Before HP I was a VP of Kindle at Amazon. My first role at Amazon was leading the team that enabled third-party software developers to create applications for Kindles. I later led the team responsible for Amazon’s digital cloud platform for Kindle that also supported music and other digital experiences. This included program management for 2 generations of Kindle and the creation of Amazon’s first ever Friends and Family Beta program, and the security response process for digital products.

Prior to Amazon.com, I spent 19 years at Microsoft. I was the first product manager on Windows NT Server where I led business strategy, positioning, licensing, pricing and the product reviews strategy that took Microsoft’s server business from less than 10% market share to well over 70% share. I created Microsoft’s model for licensing servers that not only made servers more cost effective for customers but also became the industry standard for licensing servers. I led the product management team that created the BackOffice product offering. From 2000 to 2002, I was Corporate VP of the Content Development and Delivery team where I managed all aspects of content to help our technical customers to be successful including MSDN, TechNet, Training and Certification, MS Press and Microsoft.com. From 2002 to 2006, I was the founding CVP of Microsoft’s Security Business Unit where I operationalized all aspects of Bill Gates’ vision for Trustworthy Computing including our security engineering process, security quality, emergency response programs, security products and outreach to both customers and press. In my final role at Microsoft, I was the CVP of product management for Windows where I drove policy, pricing, licensing, eco-system readiness and the launch of Windows 7.

I am an engineer by training and hold a BS in computer science with a concentration in electrical engineering with distinction from Cornell University.

After Cornell, I spent 4 years as a software developer and project leader at Data General Corporation where I led teams in the company’s OS group. My team built PC integration into DG’s mini-computer products.

Between DG and Microsoft, I earned my MBA at the Wharton School, where I was a Palmer Scholar.

I am an accomplished PR spokesperson and keynote speaker and enjoy spending time engaging with customers and partners to hear their input and ideas.

I am most proud of the products and services I have had the honor to create and the leaders I have discovered and mentored.
